Good afternoon all,
Well spring has sprung, though there was a slight hiccup this morning with a heavy frost. Despite the chill, I think my blood is beginning to warm up and the dogs have abandoned their winter jackets. It is heartening to see all the green shoots sprouting and the rosellas fussing in the eaves looking for a nesting spot.

We have some new beads in – Greek ceramics, also lovely home wares and children’s creative games. I recommend to you very delicious raspberry, strawberry or blackberry jam from Burra. We are serving it on our scones – it almost too precious to serve. A new spring menu is out with lots of minty greens.
The Book
We are toing and froing with the printers but almost settled. The reality is closing in – 2000 books is 200 cartons of 10 books. My old husband had better be on deck when they land on their pallets with a fork lift. They will be stacked to the ceilings so it is just as well we have high ceilings in the sheds, hallways and bedrooms. The launch is being planned – now 12 November.
Genevieve Jacobs from ABC 666 will launch the book and Queanbeyan playwright, Tommy Murphy will speak on ‘Food and Family’.We will be serving refreshments and all Benedict House customers are most welcome but it is necessary to book for catering purposes. If all goes to plan I will be sitting and signing the books – but one never knows! Hope I have sold a few before the family comes for Christmas – they will need somewhere to sleep and something to eat.
Rowing
My son Fergus was in the Men’s VIII that qualified for the Olympics. If all training and health stays in tact, he could well be on the way to London – a dream he has been holding onto and working towards since he was 15. I am planning a trip around the same time and may well end up there too if I can leave this place in the hands of our good staff. One hears a lot about naughty footballers in the press – but not much about the rowers – only if one happens to get exhausted and lies down.
The Queanbeyan Summer Sunset Markets
These are on every fortnight starting on Friday October 7th at 5pm. They are a real community market, with local stallholders. Being Friday evenings there will be music, some local wine and food venders – including ourselves cooking up a storm in the council kitchen. Local pantry items, fresh herbs, fruit and vegetables are in great demand so if you want to grow a little extra in your garden you can onsell. The markets are being run by the hardworking support group for Children with Disabilities – a worthy cause.
Catering
Now that we have Lee and Pene helping in the kitchen we can expand ourselves a little and do some take away catering for small functions. Talk to me re your requirements.
Christmas Lunches and Functions
Glazes are being decided, the hams are ordered, plum and apple sauces with brandy – we have revamped our Christmas lunch and functions menu. Email Kate for prices and group bookings 17218@tpg.com.au. We have a special Christmas High Tea on December 18th |
