BENEDICT HOUSE NEWSLETTER

Afternoon all

The year has flown – this will probably be our second last newsletter for 2011. The poinsettias have been ordered for the Christmas tables. We start baking the Christmas food next week.

Our gardens are green and flourishing with this wet and warm weather. Hope the tomatoes don’t get the rust though. For some reason, slugs are getting under the door and spending the nights trailing up and down the red carpet in the hallway. Any remedies known to readers would be welcome.

Lots of new Kazurri beads and necklaces are in. Also new beautiful scarves – lightweight cotton and linen - $20 and pure silk $35 or $45. Leather wallets, iPhone covers and purses expected today. Gifts under $10 – micro fibre glass cleaning cloths, magnetic book marks. Pens, cake lifters, and letter openers will be here next week. A large supply of the Italian glass beads are being blown in Murano as I write.

The ‘Summer Menu’ will be out in December and I am looking forward to have the lovely stone fruit and fresh local berries on hand.

THE BOOK LAUNCH

The book launch went well – glad to have it behind me. The wonderful Benedict House staff worked very hard preparing for the event and I am very grateful to them. Genevieve Jacobs and Tommy Murphy were great speakers. Many of my siblings as well as extended family came and also worked hard. We ate, drank, told stories, sang and recited poems into the night.

The book is for sale here at Benedict House, at Paperchain Bookstore Manuka, the National Library Bookshop, and online from our website.

Have had some great feedback about the book

“Congratulations again, your book is a beautiful piece of art.”

"I know now that I will definitely have to plan and make a booking for lunch, because after this there will be no way I can just turn up and expect a table."

"I've only had a chance to 'skim' through a copy, but the presentation and publication is such that many authors should take note."

"Steve from at Paper Chain said that it was the best self published book he had seen."
