Case study: Retailer Brand Development to drive growth in an economic downturn
A Middle Eastern grocery retailer with 10% of market share across super and hypermarket formats with a modern supply chain infrastructure. Economic factors such as the global downturn and a weakening US dollar were resulting in consumers demanding quality products at competitive prices. The modern supply chain infrastructure, including a distribution depot, was under-utilised. While the retailer had strong brand equity in Produce and an existing own label range this was also under-utilised due to an over-reliance on ‘middle-men’. These ‘middle-men’ had evolved into gatekeepers of product range, quality and cost in that retailers typically went through them as sourcing agents. The retailer recognised that it needed to get serious about own-label if it was to increase company profit and drive ambitious expansion plans.
Case study: Developing Procurement's role during Acquisition Integration
A medium sized grocery retailer in SE Asia owned by a FTSE 100 retailer based in the UK. The retailer had just doubled its size through acquisition and was in the middle of a highly demanding and time-sensitive Integration Project. Corporate Procurement was not fit-for-purpose and was only active and accountable for a small percentage of spend. Each business function did the majority of its own buying and saw Corporate Procurement as administrators of the ordering system.
